The Custom Design Process
Initial consultation
The first step is to send us an email and let us know what you’re looking for. From there, we will schedule an in-home consultation within the NYC/Northern NJ area, or an online session anywhere else in the US or Canada. You can also email photographs of your dining area, your table and any other design elements in your home that you would like considered.
Fabric selection
Based on your décor and color preferences, we will cull from thousands of textiles to provide you with a customized selection of swatches to review. Our signature “bordered tablecloths” include two coordinating fabrics, so we will suggest pairings that complement each other and your home. One of these, or an alternative coordinating fabric, can be selected to create napkins, if desired. (We also offer table runners and placemats if these are more your style.) The range of combinations is endless, so we will search until we find the right ones for you. Once your selections are made, you will receive a price quote for your approval. We will do everything possible to assure that the design process is fun and easy!


Create a pattern
We create a custom sewing pattern based on the measurements and shape of your table, and the tablecloth overhang you desire. Your unique pattern will be created using an architectural computer application and printed to scale. This pattern can be used for all future tablecloth orders from Grey House Linens.

Craft your linens
Your fabric will be sent to Drake Mills in Paterson, NJ, where it will be hand-cut and sewn according to your unique tablecloth pattern.

Napkins and any other coordinating linens you may have ordered will also be constructed at that time. Your finished linens will be shipped or delivered personally to your home within 4 – 6 weeks of your order date.
